Among contemporary Chinese artists, there is one who can always find a balance and common possibility between cultural tradition and avant-garde art. He is Wu Jian 'an. Wu Jian 'an's artistic creation is changeable. His works span between various media and styles, and move between concretion and abstraction in various forms such as painting, sculpture, paper-cut collage and installation. What is constant behind is the construction and narration of a unique world outlook, as well as the unremitting exploration of the unknown. In Wu's view, innovation does not mean going against the past, instead, the "past" may point the way to the future.
Wu Jian 'an was born in Beijing in 1980, and his ancestral home is Jinshan, Shanghai. He is currently a professor and postgraduate tutor of experimental Art College of Central Academy of Fine Arts, researcher of Gong Wangfu Traditional Chinese Art Research and Protection Center of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, member of Academic Committee of Beijing Zoo. Many world-class museums, art galleries and other art institutions is the art collection, such as the United States the Los Angeles county museum of art, Cornell university, Herbert f. Johnson art museum, art museum, Berkeley, and the Pacific image art center, museum of Brazilian Oscar niemeyer, the central academy of fine arts gallery, Beijing people's livelihood of modern art, such as Australian white rabbit art foundation.
Recently, Wu Jianan was invited to specially design the summer window work Myth of Innovation for Hermes House. Starting from his unique contemporary "mysticism" world view, wu continues to focus on the mythological motif he has been studying for a long time and narrates surreal fables about the relationship between the past and the future using a variety of visual media as vocabulary. This time, Modern Communication will cooperate with Wu Jian 'an to launch the "500 Brushstrokes Modern Communication" workshop, which is also the debut of Wu Jian 'an's 500 Brushstrokes series in Shanghai. Nearly 100 influential people from all walks of life will participate in the workshop, wu Jian 'an will improvisational, casual and creative strokes of the guests in the scene into an abstract whole, the final work of 500 Brushstrokes new.
This work will be on August 28 in sponsored by Shanghai tzu chi house Modern Art Base, the former wave assisted Wu Jian 'an solo exhibition gallery in the river's lake "myth", together with multiple series new Wu Jian 'an display. As one of his most representative creative plans, the 500 Brushstrokes series originated from two interactive workshops Wu conducted in 2016 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston).
