PG House is located in the coastal area of France and is a newly renovated minimalist coastal residence, designed by Andy Kerstens, the founder of the Antwerp-based KERSTENS studio in Belgium. Influenced by the traditional layout, the original building had scattered spaces and blocked circulation, with fragmented room divisions completely blocking the integration of the indoor space with the coastal natural landscape. Therefore, the design team completely restructured the public space on the first floor, creating a continuous and transparent circulation, and opening up a complete view from the entrance area to the coastline. Under the premise of complying with the site planning regulations, the design maximized the building's lighting and viewing interface, allowing the magnificent sea view to naturally permeate the interior and become an indispensable atmosphere base for the living space.

The designer carried out a liberation and renovation of the sloping roof structure on the second floor of the building, effectively raising the indoor floor height and creating a relaxed and expansive living atmosphere. The project transformed the core area of the second floor into an integrated master bedroom private suite, equipped with an exclusive transitional corridor and a complete bathroom system, constructing a quiet and comfortable private relaxation space. The overall space scale is spacious and grand, with simple and restrained decoration design. The suspended blackened steel structure staircase at the core of the space clearly showcases the neat architectural structure beauty, combined with the chicken wing wood tread components, the transparent structural form does not block light and viewing views, and combines stable structural performance with unique spatial experience.

This project abandons the traditional spatial division model based on wall partitions and instead uses the natural extension of materials to define the space. The ground and the main wall both adopt sandblasted Muschelkalk limestone, with the natural texture perfectly matching the texture of coastal weathered rocks, perfectly adapting to the natural landscape of the coastal site. The space is complemented by the warm brushed French oak and the heavy-textured chicken wing wood, balancing the spatial tone at different functional nodes. Various materials seamlessly connect with each other, without any abrupt boundaries. Through the gradual change of texture, walkways, leisure areas, and private living areas are formed, allowing the decorative materials to have both decorative and spatial division functions.

The blackened steel metal components run through all the design details of the entire house. The exquisite groove-shaped material design enriches the spatial hierarchy from both visual and tactile perspectives. Combined with the delicate rattan weaving craftsmanship elements, it adds soft natural textures to the cool minimalist space, aligning with the natural temperament of the coastal residence. This design continues the core characteristic of Belgian interior design, which focuses on material experience. Through the collision and integration of different materials, it balances minimalist aesthetics with living texture, creating a high-quality living space with rich layers and suitable for the coastal environment.
